What Is an Expansion Tank — and Why
Do You Need One?

When water is heated, it expands. In a closed plumbing system (which most Long Island homes have), this expanding hot water has nowhere to go — which causes pressure to build inside your water heater and plumbing lines.

This pressure can lead to:

Leaks

Burst pipes

Water heater damage

Premature tank failure

Damage to valves and fixtures

A water heater expansion tank absorbs this excess pressure and keeps your plumbing system safe

Signs You Need a New Expansion Tank or Repair

Call us if you notice:

Water heater leaks or puddling around the tank

Popping or banging noises from the water heater

Frequent T&P (temperature/pressure) valve discharge

Inconsistent water pressure

Hot water running out too quickly

Visible corrosion on the expansion tank

The expansion tank feels waterlogged (full of water)

Fluctuating water pressure when faucets are on

Many homeowners assume their water heater is failing — but often, it’s simply the expansion tank.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolute Air & Power did an outstanding job on the installation of my replacement air conditioning system. We have been using them for over 10 years. Tom and his team were great to work with. The technicians were professional, worked efficiently, and made sure everything was cleaned up before they left. Tom took the time to answer all my questions. Highly recommend Absolute Air & Power for anyone looking for quality workmanship and reliable service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A day after we closed on our house at the end of June, our central air unit crashed out. I called Tom that afternoon and he came first thing the next morning. Although not great news having to buy an entirely new central air system, Tom and his team made it happen in less than 5 days - not to mention during a heat wave! Couldn’t recommend them enough, will definitely be using them for future mishaps!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am beyond happy with the service I received from Tom and his team at Absolute Air & Power! From the first call I made to set up an estimate, to the estimate, to installation today everything was great! Everyone was professional, worked as a well oiled team and installed central air and a split in my basement. They arrived at 8am and by 3pm, everything was cleaned up and my house was nice and cool! My only regret is not calling them sooner!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been using Absolute Air and Power for over 10 years for both my AC and Heating needs. Their yearly service plan is extremely reasonable and worthwhile to keep your system in tip top shape for all the seasons. I've had a new AC system recently installed by Tom and his team -again the work was extremely professional. Working with Tom, his son, team and office managers is a pleasure, and I would highly recommend AAP to anyone with concerns of working with a trustworthy professional HVAC service.

I needed a new central air unit and furnace and from the initial appt to the installation, my entire experience exceeded expectations. I don’t highly recommend many companies but this one “absolutely” earned it.
